Spirits used to effect each other and have a collision size so everyone just spammed them on the alter and it blocked the other teams ghosts so even if yours went down it took forever to take the alter.

you would rush to the altar and take it, then drop "fertile season" many, many times, around the hero.
he was then untouchable by warriors, and every spirit had 1000+ health (the ghostly had over 1800). then the rangers either kiled the enemy team, or just waited until the timer was done... other dropped spirits: nature's renewal (destroyed enchantements be4 the nerfing) primal echoes (anti sig) muddy terrain (for relic runs) winnowing (damage) pred season (damage) favorable winds (damage) frozen soil (well... if you somehow kill something... you dont want him to get ressed...) that's pretty much it... it was relatively easy to run, and if you were able to reach the hoh (through jumping or normal means, although normal means were tough) you would stay there for a long, long time since altar maps were this build's speciality... |

The total of it was that you could (thanks to Oath Shot) strip all enchantments and hexes every 10 seconds (thanks to Quickening Zephyr) killing most Nerco, Mesmer, Elementalists, and Protection and Smiting Monks abilities, increase everyone's HP and armor with Firtile Season (killing spike group offense), and wall yourselves in, preventing Warriors from touching you.
Basically turning it into a rather lame Rangers vs. Rangers battle. If one team didn't just quit first in disgust. It was basically the lame way to get PvP wins before the nerf. Then IWAY stepped in. |

IWAY isn't as effective, IWAY is low level fame farming, plenty of builds can shut down IWAY such as monk and ele spiker/smite teams that sit on each other and do heal area.

most build can take iway, if run by relatively smart players who know what to do...
spirit spamming was unstoppable in altar maps. if a ranger team would succesfully jump to hoh and take it (in a similar way to ranger spike of today, using damage spirits and spiking the hero), then they would stay there until they got fed up and just quit... that's unfair. |
